Macgray
Biographie
Brussels-based musician Macgray creates a musical landscape full of analog synths, pianos, strings, voices and field recordings. The producer and pianist has been playing music for more than two decades and has studied classical music and jazz before his electronic music journey started eight years ago. Macgray has played in many collective projects, including a rock band (TOTM), an electronic music ensemble (Bétøn) and french indie pop (Mathieu Thonon).
Macgray started his first solo project in 2020, ranging from Ambient to Film Music, Electronica and Deep House.
His debut album Journey to the Dawn released early 2020 was nominated for the Octave de la Musique in 2021 (Electronic Music category). His second album Collapse was released mid 2023. Collapse tells the story of living species (human, animal, or extra-terrestrial), civilizations, planets, and the universe… the path from creation to nothingness, how the small and big elements of the universe all exist through birth and death. Collapse was acclaimed by many electronic producers, including Dave Clarke.
He also works on film music and has released two long documentary soundtracks, Premières Danses released on France 2 in 2023, and Queerying Nature released in Belgian theatres and on RTBF, which was pre-selected for a Magritte in 2024.
Brussels-based producer Macgray returns in 2024 with a new electronica EP Horizon released on 27 September 2024. Horizon blends elements of Ambient, Deep House, and Techno, capturing a spectrum of emotions through instrumental electronic music.
Macgray has performed on many stages in Belgium, including notable performances at Fuse, Brass and at Le Botanique. He invites musicians both on his albums and on stage, notably Hélène Van Loo (Vocals, Concert Flute), Olivier Colot (Concert Flute), Charles Bernard (Vocals, Drums) and Evelyne Esterzon (Vocals).
